Spring green-up isn’t always a seamless process. Sometimes, diseases can cause discoloration and patchiness, and turf may appear weak and thin due to fertility problems. No matter the issue, we have the tools and tips you need to get your turf on track.
Handling Disease
If you notice disease symptoms, it’s important to diagnose the issue and make a fungicide application as soon as the weather allows. Untreated turf often struggles to fight off diseases, and some, like pink snow mold, can appear when temperatures are between 32–50°F. That’s a very wide temperature range, so the earlier you apply, the more likely you are to prevent disease and give your course long-lasting protection. If you’re looking for products, we have dozens of golf course fungicides to choose from.
Addressing Fertility Issues
To understand your course’s fertility issues, you’ll need to collect a soil sample. Fertilizing on a trial-and-error basis will waste valuable time and money, but a soil test like Soil Solver will tell you exactly what nutrient deficiencies your turf is facing. Results are available fast, allowing you to make targeted applications as soon as possible. Contact your ATS rep for more information on Soil Solver and view our golf course fertilizer options here.
Assisting Green-Up in Cold Conditions
If you aren’t dealing with disease and/or nutritional issues but are still having problems with green-up, the weather is probably to blame. In the early spring, conditions may be cold and cloudy. Low temperatures and a lack of sunlight will reduce root uptake and metabolism, which slows down turf growth. Our complete line of Foliar-Pak products can help get growth back on track, and the products below perform exceptionally well when temperatures haven’t caught up with the calendar.
- Foliar-Pak 14-2-4: This liquid fertilizer provides a balanced nutrient supply with a focus on nitrogen, which is essential for rapid green-up and growth in the spring.
- Foliar-Pak Armament Concentrate: This popular product enhances nutrient uptake and reduces nutrient lock-up in the soil, making nutrients more available to the plant.
- Foliar-Pak Micros Plus: This micronutrient package provides essential trace elements that are crucial for optimal plant health and vigor.
- Foliar-Pak Amperage: Designed to stimulate root growth and improve plant stress resistance, Amperage helps turf recover and green-up quickly.

For the best results, follow the application guidelines provided by Foliar-Pak and, of course, consider the specific needs of your turfgrass type and local growing conditions.
