Fact: Stressed turf will not recover unless it’s properly hydrated.
As we approach the fall, we’re getting to a point where, although temperatures are cooler, a lot of the humidity is gone, and it’s very dry. Nothing stunts recovery like dryness and drought pressure.
An Oddball Year
This year has been very hit or miss water-wise. Depending on your location, you’ve either had too much or too little water, and that’s why many courses have seen so much damage this year.
One course may be experiencing heavy drought conditions, while a course 10 miles down the road may have issues with flooding. If you have a few minutes to spare, Dr. Kevin Frank just published an excellent article on this topic.
Wetting Agents
With significant damage being a widespread issue, I’ve been recommending soil surfactants (also called wetting agents) to my customers. They are great tools to keep plants hydrated and speed up recovery.
To me, Infiltrip provides the best damage recovery out of our HydroPak line, and Percolate is the best at managing hydration in the soil profile.
Rescue Sprays
A good root health product combined with a wetting agent will help hydrate the plant, move water, and help move nutrients down to the root zone and make them available to the plant.
I recommend pairing a wetting agent with Armament Concentrate, and then following up with a foliar application of Grow-In.
This is Your Window
A lot of times, people let their guard down when temperatures cool. The weather is perfect right now for recovery, but plants need hydration to recover.
