With seeding season approaching, it’s time to choose a herbicide.
It’s important to keep the seeding restrictions of different active ingredients in mind when making applications. Seed applied too soon will germinate, but it can be stunted or even killed as it comes into contact with herbicide in the soil.
Here are the wait times for some commonly used turf herbicides:
Four Weeks
- Sulfentrazone (Dismiss, Dismiss NXT, ArmorTech 4-Runner, Q4 Plus, and Allstar)
- Halosulfuron (Prosedge, Sedgehammer, Certainty, and Manor)
Three to Four Weeks
- Standard Three-Way Herbicides (ArmorTech Threesome, Vessel, and ArmorTech 3LO)
- Triclopyr (Triclopyr 3 or 4, Turflon Ester, and three-way products containing triclopyr, such as Horsepower)
Seven Days
- Quinclorac (Drive XLR8, Q-Ball, Quintessential, and ArmorTech QuinPro)
Zero/Immediate
- Glyphosate (Ranger Pro)
- Mesotrione (ArmorTech Trione II)
- Topramezone (Pylex)
- Florasulam (Defendor)
