It’s Never Too Early to Start Saving for the Future

Financial planning word with coin in glass jar and graph up.

In my travels and discussions with people who work in the turfgrass industry, I’m amazed at the number of people who have yet to start planning for retirement, let alone saving. The common thought is “I have time to do that later.” I’ve found that some employers don’t offer much or any savings options such as 401(k) or pensions which means the saving and investing is left to the individuals.

One thing that I have learned is it’s never too early to start saving. Simply setting aside $20 even $10 a paycheck may seem insignificant at first, but it’s amazing to see how money can “work” for you as it multiplies over time. This method also gets you “trained” to start saving.

The question then arises of where and how can I invest my money? All this can be confusing, challenging, and intimidating. Doing research and acquiring information from friends or the internet is a good place to start. One excellent resource on the internet is the National Endowment for Financial Education which is a non-profit that provides a wide range of support including financial planning, financial education, personal finance education, and much more. Another option is to visit a trained financial advisor from a reputable company.

However you do it, I just encourage you to start and sooner is always better than later!
