Every field manager wants a weed-free infield and outfield, but winter annual weeds can quickly throw a wrench in those plans.
Winter annuals complete their life cycle during the colder months; they germinate in the fall, overwinter as seedlings, and bloom in early spring. These weeds can quickly overrun infields and outfields if they aren’t properly managed, thanks to their ability to withstand frost and thrive in early spring.
Luckily, ATS carries Corteva’s Crew specialty herbicide, which is perfect for pre-emergently controlling winter annuals on warning tracks and infield soil.
What Makes Crew Herbicide Unique?
Crew is a granular product that combines the strength of Dimension 2EW (dithiopyr) and Gallery SC (isoxaben). Together, they offer a wide application window and up to five months of pre-emergent control. Plus, Crew is safe to use on both cool- and warm-season grasses.
How to Use Crew Herbicide
Keep infields and outfields weed-free by following these guidelines:
- Apply Early: Apply Crew before weed seeds germinate in early spring or fall
- Use the Right Rate: For infield skins and turf, apply at a rate of one bag per 15,000 square feet
- Irrigate: If there is no rainfall within three weeks of application, ensure the treated area is irrigated
- Make a Second Application: To maintain control throughout the season, a second application can be made five to ten weeks after the initial treatment
- Don’t Apply if Overseeding: If you plan to overseed this fall, avoid making a pre-emergent application, as it may kill grass seedlings
