Course Summary:

This course will arm you with the tools and knowledge to control weeds and algae in the aquatic areas of your customers’ properties, golf courses, and sports facilities. You will identify four types of aquatic weeds and common algae species and learn the biological and mechanical control options. The discussion will give an overview of products, including the safest herbicide options for control and their application timing for best results, and the use of lake colorants to inhibit photosynthesis. The course will conclude with a review of the importance of beneficial bacteria and dissolved oxygen levels in lakes.

About the Instructor:

Chip Houmes is the District Manager for Precision Laboratories, providing technical support for 17 states in the Midwest. Chip has 38 years of experience in turf and agriculture chemicals, and he has given over 300 presentations on pesticides, weeds, insects, disease, plant growth regulators (PGRs), and fertility. Chip received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Illinois and currently resides on his operating family farm where he also grew up.
