Now that the spring rains have slowed down and the turf is starting to dry, mowing with sharp blades at the correct height is a great way to keep a dark green turf. Don’t cut cool season grass too short; taller heights provide deeper root systems, better appearance, and reduce weeds and crabgrass in your lawn.

Don’t cut more than a third of the grass blade at one cutting. If the lawn gets too tall, break it down into multiple cuts with three or so days in between cuttings to get caught up. If possible, mow when the turf is dry and use a side-discharge mower. Mulching mowers are prone to clogging and leave clumps of grass sitting on top of the turf.

Hopefully these mowing tips will help you maintain a green lawn during the summer months.
