Which insects does clothianidin control best? Why would you choose to apply clothianidin over other insecticides? Get these questions answered and a few more in the clothianidin video or transcript below, featuring Advanced Turf Sales Rep Nikki Hendrickson.

What insects does clothianidin control best?

Clothianidin is a systemic insecticide. It’s also another neonicotinoid similar to imidacloprid. I would use clothianidin in ways that I would very similar to imidacloprid in turf.

Why would we use clothianidin over the other insecticide active ingredients?

I would use clothianidin over other active ingredients when I need a quicker knockdown versus using something like imidacloprid. If I was going after grub control when the grubs are already present and you’re getting a little damage, clothianidin will give you quicker control of those insects than will imidacloprid.

How is clothianidin best used?

Clothianidin, to me, is best used when it’s also combined with bifenthrin. It makes a great combo product for grub control, pre or post, and if you have an active grub infestation, you can get quicker knockdown post control of grubs with clothianidin than you would with other actives.

Is it ok to use with a ride-on sprayer/spreader?

Clothianidin can be used in a ride-on spreader/sprayer, especially when used as a granule. You can put it out of the spreader. And once again, if you are using clothianidin in the liquid form, Aloft liquid or Arena liquid, I would then have some volume of water going out with it. So, it’s hard to use in those spreader/sprayers unless you can get a good amount of volume.
