As the calendar turns to September, we can all begin to look forward to the return of college football and (hopefully) cool, crisp mornings. But for those of us in the turf industry, September also signifies the unofficial beginning to a 4-6 week period where cultivation and seeding projects take center stage. Mild daytime temperatures, cool nights, warm soils and more frequent rainfall make this an excellent time to tackle these tasks.

In the lawn care business, this is the window when many companies will begin their aeration and overseeding programs for their customers who ask for this service. This can be an extremely labor intensive process, but with the recent introduction of stand-on aerators designed for the lawn care industry, the task has become less burdensome, more efficient and therefore, more profitable for those companies that offer this service.

The industry leader in the stand-on aerator market is a familiar name to many lawn care operators: LT Rich Products. Their Z-Plug stand-on zero-turn aerator is a well-designed, well-built, high-output machine. By giving you the option to add 6 different attachments to the standard model, the machine is versatile enough to be used year round. Priced at $8,295 for the standard base unit, it is also quite a value compared to competitive products on the market.

This machine comes equipped with an 18 Horsepower Vanguard engine that helps this unit aerate upwards of 80,000 square feet an hour, while producing core depths of up to 3.5 inches. The 40” wide floating tine head is the largest on the market and the sixty ¾” tines help produce 4.8 holes per square foot. The tine head can be lifted up in 2 seconds, using the well-placed thumb switches for quick turning. Quick release attach points make quick work of removing/attaching the tine head or any of the six optional attachments.
