We are all aware that cost per acre of turf products can range from a few dollars to several hundred dollars per acre. The last contact we have with these products are our spray nozzles. With that thought we would be well served to review and select the appropriate spray nozzle for our application.

All nozzles are not the same and this is particularly true for turf applied products. For golf turf managers the preferred spray nozzle should offer a ‘flat fan’ spray pattern with medium to coarse spray droplets. There are four Tee Jet nozzles that fit most all turf applications and worth reviewing to select the appropriate nozzle for your specific application.

While selecting nozzles consider product to be applied and drift control. The four nozzle types to consider for golf applications are: TurboTeejet; TurboTwinjet; XR or XRC Teejet; AIXR or AI Teejet; & AIC Teejet (see graphic below).

On a final thought most golf turf applications prefer 1-2 gallons per square meter spray volume. Select circumstances require additional water volume for soil applied products. Refer to product label for guidance or consider a quick irrigation cycle to rinse product into turf canopy.
